CAR RENTAL GUIDE FOR EXPATS

If you are planning a trip to  Turkey, you may be wondering if it is worth renting a car or not. Turkey is a big country with a lot to see and do, so having your own vehicle can definitely help. But there are  a few things to keep in mind before you decide to rent a car in Turkey. Here are a few tips to help you make the best decision for your trip.

Car Rental Tips

1.Ehliyet

Make sure you have a valid driving license from your home country. Also,if you are not a Type k citizen, you will need to have an International Driving Permit (IDP). You will need a valid driver's license to rent a car in Turkey. If you are from the United States, you can use your regular driver's license. However,  if you are from another country, you may need an International Driving Permit. Be  sure to check with the rental car company beforehand to find out what they need.

2. Traffic Rules

Be aware of the traffic laws in Turkey. For example, seatbelts are mandatory by law and it is forbidden to use a mobile phone while driving.

6. Check the Rental Agreement

Keep your rental agreement and insurance documents with you at all times. This will come in handy if you step aside or have an accident.

7. Check the cost of gas in Turkey.

Gasoline prices in Turkey may vary depending on your region. However, it's still  a good idea to check prices and adjust your budget accordingly before renting a car.

8.Choose the right car for your needs.

If you are planning to just visit Istanbul, you do not need to rent a large SUV. A smaller car will be more fuel-efficient, and it will be easier to maneuver around the city. On the other hand,if you plan to drive in rural areas or explore the coast, a larger car may be a better option.

9. Compare prices from different rental companies.

There are so many different rental companies in Turkey that you can choose from. Spend some time comparing fads and features to find the best deal. Be sure to read the small print to find out what's included in the price.

10. Ask about insurance.

Most rental car companies will ask you to buy insurance. Before you agree to anything, be sure to ask about the cost of insurance and what it covers.  Make sure you have adequate insurance coverage. The car insurance policy in your home country may not cover you in Turkey.
